May Day Marching Band is a community-based activist marching band open to anyone who wants to play with us. We mainly play around Pittsburgh with a few larger trips throughout the year. Please use this form to sign up for your first practice. This gives us an idea of how you will potentially fit with the band. After you complete the form, someone will get in touch to give you more information!

Basic Information

What would you like to be called? Please give us a name and your preferred pronouns. Your name can be a legal name, nickname, preferred name, or alias. Last name is optional.

How did you find out about May Day Marching Band? Do you know anyone currently in the band? Have you seen us at a show, played with us before, or been a member? Do you have any other history or connection with the band?

We are committed to welcoming new members of all skill levels and are happy to help you improve your skills. Please let us know where you are at in your musical development.

Describe your experience with any instruments you play. How proficient are you? Do you learn best by ear or by reading? You can also talk about skills you would like to develop.

Do you have any experience playing in other bands? Are you still performing with any other bands? If you stopped playing with a group, please tell us as much as you are willing to share about how and why that happened.

As an activist band, we are oriented around shared principles, and we play for many organizations in support of social and political causes. Please tell us about your own perspective.

May Day Marching Band exists to build and strengthen our commmunity, to transform and reclaim public space, to make music accessible by teaching and welcoming musicians of all skill levels, and to advance our values. How does this align with your goals and values?
